Among one of the largest dinosaurs to have ever walked the earth, Tyrannosaurus Rex (or T.Rex) is possibly the most famous of all dinosaurs - and for good reason!
Standing over 5 metres tall, 13 metres long from snout to the tip of its tail and weighing around 7 tons, T rex was one of the largest carnivores ever to walk the Earth. Its original home was North America during the late Cretaceous period (67 – 65 million years ago) where it would stalk Triceratops among other prey. Tyrannosaurus had excellent binocular vision and a remarkable sense of smell - an adaptation essential to a predator. a remarkable sense of smell. Studies have also shown T.Rex was no slouch, reaching speeds of over 30 miles per hour! While T.Rex is widely mocked for its short arms, they were surprisingly strong! Many scientists believe they aided the big predator in standing back up after sleeping. Speaking of strong, Tyrannosaurus Rex had the strongest bite force of any terrestrial (land walking) animal in history! With a bite force of over 5,800 kilos, scientists estimate being bitten by a T.Rex would've felt like being sat on by an elephant - ouch! |
